The Textual Analysis of the Theme of Identity Crisis in Kamila Shamsie’s “Burnt Shadows”

This research study attempts in finding out the elements of identity crises in the novel “Burnt Shadows” but specifically in the character of Hiroko Tanka, a Japanese school teacher who is the survivor of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki, Japan in World War II by the USA. That event had a very devasting effect on her life and due to that event, she was changed forever. It was the main reason for Hiroko’s migration and the start of her inferiority complex. Textual Analysis is used to showcase and highlight the different aspects and elements of identity crises. It will help us understand the impact of different events in the life of Hiroko that ultimately leads to the issue of identity crises.
