Guidelines for Authors

Authors intending to submit manuscripts to Dialogues in Humanities and Social Sciences (DHSS) are advised to read the following guidelines carefully before submission. Compliance with these requirements will facilitate editorial screening, peer review, and production, and will help ensure that submissions meet the journal’s scholarly and technical standards.

1. Submission of Manuscripts

DHSS accepts manuscript submissions through its Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, which is accessible via the journal website: Dialogues in Humanities and Social Sciences (DHSS)

Authors are required to register on the journal’s OJS platform before submitting a manuscript. Once registered, authors should follow the online submission steps and ensure that all required metadata, author information, and manuscript files are uploaded correctly.

2. Originality and Prior Publication

Submission of a manuscript to DHSS implies that:

  • the manuscript is original and has not been published previously, in whole or in part, in any journal, book, conference proceeding, or other formal publication outlet;

  • the manuscript is not under consideration elsewhere at the time of submission;

  • all authors have approved the submission and agree to its consideration by the journal; and

  • the work does not infringe the copyright or intellectual property rights of any third party.

3. Editorial Screening

All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial screening by the editorial office and/or desk editors. At this stage, the manuscript is reviewed to determine whether it:

  • falls within the aims and scope of the journal;

  • complies with the journal’s formatting and submission requirements;

  • demonstrates an appropriate standard of academic writing and presentation;

  • meets the journal’s ethical and originality requirements; and

  • is suitable for external peer review.

Following desk review, a manuscript may be:

  • returned to the author(s) for technical correction or revision;

  • declined at the preliminary stage; or

  • forwarded for external peer review.

4. Language and Style

Manuscripts must be written in clear, concise, coherent, and grammatically accurate academic English. Authors are responsible for ensuring that the language of the manuscript is of a standard suitable for scholarly publication. Submissions with substantial language, structural, or formatting deficiencies may be returned for revision prior to peer review.

DHSS follows the APA referencing and editorial style (latest edition adopted by the journal), unless otherwise specified for a particular type of submission.

5. Formatting Requirements

Authors should prepare manuscripts in accordance with the journal’s formatting and bibliographic requirements. In general, manuscripts should:

  • be typed in an editable word-processing format;

  • include a clear and informative title;

  • contain an abstract and keywords where required;

  • present the main text in a logically structured format with appropriate headings and subheadings;

  • use consistent citation and referencing in accordance with APA style;

  • ensure that all tables, figures, appendices, and supplementary material are clearly labelled and properly cited in the text; and

  • remove any identifying information from the main manuscript file where required for double-blind peer review.

6. Responsibility of Authors

Authors bear full responsibility for the content of their manuscripts, including the accuracy of facts, data, citations, quotations, references, permissions, acknowledgements, and ethical compliance. Authors must ensure that:

  • all sources are properly cited and acknowledged;

  • the manuscript does not contain plagiarism, fabricated data, falsified information, or misleading claims;

  • permissions have been obtained where copyrighted material is reproduced or adapted; and

  • all listed authors have made an appropriate scholarly contribution to the work.

7. Compliance with Journal Policies

Before submitting a manuscript, authors are strongly encouraged to review all relevant DHSS policies, including those relating to:

  • peer review;
